Fort Worth ISD has contracted with Gibson to conduct a research study reviewing Special Interest Programs (SIPs) in place at seven different high school campuses in the district. SIPs are intended to provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum focused on a unique theme or interest, such as science and engineering, law and government, or health and medical professions. This research project includes as thorough literature review of promising practices related to high school special interest programs and small learning communities, a review of the district's existing programs, including in-depth interviews with central office and campus leaders, and culminates with recommendations to the district for further building and strengthening of existing SIP programs.
